Blog 15: Revision of CATW 2

     The article "The woman who died in the waiting room" by bjeneen interlandi, was talking about a 49-year-old woman, who died in one of the largest psychiatric hospital in brooklyn the article clearly explained the sate of the woman, and how she was reacting to her mental illness, which was captured by the security camera in the waiting room. at that stage, but no one came to help her, but when she was dead, thats when help came, and they found out that she was bleading.
     the idea that is most important to me is that with just 50,000 inpatient psychiatric beds for tens of millions of people across the country, the mentally ill typically wait twice as long for treatment as other patient population do, which means that the governement, who are people that controles what happens in the country , are forgeting about the poor, and the mentally ill citizen. to avoid this case from repeating it's self, the government, should provide more psychiatric hospital in the country since it has more mentaly ill patient than any other patient populationhas. for instance i have a friend how was  mentally ill and went to the psychiatric hospital several times but couldn't be treated because of the large population of people he finds there there any time he goes there, but at last he was finally able to see the psychiatric doctor who told him that if he had came early, he would have been treated quick and saved alot of money, so he ended up paying extra for his treatament
     the case of late miss esmin green wa a sad and disturbing one but we learn from our mistakes, so i want the government to take that case as a mistake and try to improve or provid more public psychiatric hospital all over the country.

   The article "how to do one thing at a time" is basiclly talking about the disadvantages and treatment of multi-tasking to our brain.An experiment was carried out at stanford university, where students where asked to multi-task,and some others were asked to work on it individually on the same task.After several minutes, the result was that the single-taskers did better than the multi-tasking is not yet known, but however you could repair your power of concentration by solution such as yoga acupuncture.
    the idea that i thing is most important to me is that "A tremendous amount of evidence shows that the brain does better when it's performing tasks in sequence rather than all at once. multi-tasking had been part of my life in my early years of high school, doing two things simultaneously, always helped me finish all my work on time, but less effective, And i always wonder why i was never doing well in school. One day on my way to school, i came across an article on a magazine about multi-tasking and it's chronic effect on the brain, i read the magazine and i found out that you are less effective when you multi-task, and i decided to give it a try, when i got home, i started doing all my home work in seguence, and i started having good grades in school.
     Also my friend who has lost his ability to concentrat because of chronic multi-tasking, took my advice and started taking yoga classes, and which helped him tremendously to sharpen his focus, because he was almost at the point of loossing his job, because he couldn't do any thing efficiently, and that was unlikely for a 4.0 graudate of business admin.
        yes we all know that multi-tasking is bad to our health both mentally and physically, but we still go ahead in doing it, because besed on the economical problems we have nowadays, we have to keep up to our various jobs,family,friend, and because of the need and the demand of doing this daily activites, multi-tasking has become part of us.

the summary did not have any structure, even though the writer stated the main idea of the passage, but the use of the words "I strongly agree" completely ruled out the summary because, a summary is not suppose to have an opinion. The writer did not put the supporting idea in the right places and the writers most important idea in the passage is suppose to be in the stated. But he had a good body paragraph and supported it well.

also had the same problem with the first one, but they could improve there summary by stateing clearly the authors and their main idea, and the suporting idea.

Blog 12: Consequentialism

      The movie ''Gone Baby Gone'' was talking about the choices people make, and then consequences. it specifically talked about the investigation by two private investigators, Patrick and Angela who searched for an abducted four-year-old girl Amanda, who was talking from her drug dealing mother Helene, that never cared of provided for her . Patrick and Angela where hired by the Helene aunty to help solve the case. In the course of solving the case, the investigator found a link with Helene and cheese also a drug dealer, who Helene stole money from. Patrick suspected that he might be the kidnapper and decided to make a deal with him in exchange of his money. but what Patrick didn't know was that the kidnap itself was a setup by the cops he was working with. And in the completions of this task both Patrick and the cops committed murder and  remmy and Nike lost their life’s. and at the end of the movie Patrick and Angela found out that Amanda was still alive, and she was happy with the captian.this left Patrick with a big decision to make. Patrick threatens to call the authorities, but Doyle attempts to convince him that Amanda is better off living with them than with her drug-addicted mother. Patrick leaves and discusses the choices with Angie, who says she will leave him if he calls the police, since Amanda is much better off with the Doyles, and the did what he taught was right and called the authorities, and return Amanda to her mum.

           In the movie,Angie,Sergeant Remy,Capt.Doyle,nick and amanda's uncle Lionel, believed in Consequentialism. because they all working for the best interest of Amanda, that is to keep her away from her drug-addicted, careless mother, no matter the consequences, even thought it could cost many peoples life, even theirs. So that Amanda could live a happy and better life with the captain. They also believed that even thought they committed murder in the act of kidnaping, and keeping Amanda, was all good because they did it in other to save a life.
         Also in the movie Patrick was believed to be a ethical absolutism, because he believed that a murder should be punishable by murder that why he shot that man who molested and killed a child, and he also belief that a child should never be taken away from his or her mother, that’s why he did everything possible in his will to get Amanda back to her mother, even though he knew that amanda would have a better life with the captain.
         Personally in my own point of view, i thing the movie did not take a side, because the movie made us know that what the captain and his other accomplishes, did everything they did because of the interest and wellbeing of Amanda. and on the other hand Patrick was also going everything for the best interest of Amanda and her mum, and also what he believe in.

Blog 10: Hero and anti-hero in the movie Hero

A hero is some one who  performs great tasks for others, tasks like  savior; noble; courage in face of danger; self-less; cares for greater good of humanity; honest; simple; self-sacrifice; near-perfect and in the movies both Bernie LaPlante and John Bubber . John bubber saved people at the Vietnam war and Bernie LaPlante saved people from the burning air plane
And i also thing that both of them are anti-Hero because they also  contrary, opposite of hero; flawed; complex; tormented; rejects tradition and conventions; gray areas, sometimes unethical; imperfect.

Blog 9:practice test 1

   The passage is talking about the in and out state tuition rates of legal and illegal students at the illinois colleges and universities. A vote of 112-4 at the illinois house which recently made them to pass a bill that allows young people in the us illegally to pay in-state tuition rate at the college, and this shouldn't have been an easy vote. The difference between the in-state and the out-of-state rate is about $8,604, and the people would'nt want to see any able student deprived of a good education but neither should they deprive their citizens from their rights. They a consined because of the fact that this people have no legal right to be present in the country but be entitled to a very expensive and valuable benefit of citizenship is ridiculous. And when the matter is agured the fact still remains that their parents pay tax here.The idea that i think is most significant is that the difference is between $5,302, the current in-state rate, and $13,903, the out-of-state rate.
    As the author said ''no one wants to see any able student deprived of a good higher education''. that means that if illegal immigrants can't afford to pay this out-of-state tution fee, they there for have no choice but to drop out from the school, mean while considering the fact that both legal and illegel parents pay taxes here, therefor benefiting to the economy.for instance i have a cousin who is currently attending the new york university, who latter on transfered to a two year college because the out-fo-state tution rate was very high for him and his family to afford, i also also have another cousin back home in Nigeria who got accepted in one of the university in dallas and couldn't come because they also couldn't afford it. And for me presently in the states paying taxs but still paying the out of state tution which is two times more than the in-state fee, i have to try to work hard to see if i could get a scholarship or something, so that i can take a little burden of my parents and keep on pursuing my dreams.
     For most student the out-of-state tution fee is a very big obstacle that hinder them from achiving their goal as a student, and i hope that i could be reduced to an acceptable and affordable rate.

    In "The Red Pill or The Blue Pill Is Ignorance Bliss?" Christine Cornell and Patrick Malcomson where trying to relate the similaritys between the movie and common characters like Neo from the film The Matrix and Alice from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. there related The red pill or the blue pill in The Matrix and the drink and the cake in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland because in both movies the taking of the pill and the eating of the cake but make them see the truth,or make them get to the other side of the world.contequently but movie are also similary because both neo and alice wanted to see how deep the rabit hole goes.
    both movie brought us to the " The Allegory of The Cave'" by Socrates in Plato book The Republic, because for neo, when he found out the turth, he couldnt belive, his eyes hurt and he became sick, and as time passed on he began to get used to it.
   

Blog 7: The Heroic Choices in The Matrix

The Choices that neo made
1- he had to choose from the red or the blue pill.

2-he had a choice to stay as a computer hacker or to work in one of the best software company

3-he had a choice to pull out the plug from morphous or to save him

4-he had the choice to teleport his self back to the ship or to stay and fight the agent

5- he had the choice to let trinity die in the helecopter or to save her

6- he had the choice to beleave what the oracle said or not.

 

Some of the important  choices that show he is the hero of the story

 -he had to choose from the red or the blue pill.

he had a choice: To take the blue pill and stay in his current
existence or take the red pill and see "how far down the rabbit hole
goes". 

-he had a choice to pull out the plug from morphous or to save him. in that scene, he showed the ture qualitys of a hero he decided to die trying to save morphous than to watch him die, because morphous sacrificed himself for them.

 -he had the choice to teleport his self back to the ship or to stay and fight the agent, in this scene he also showed som quality of a hero,he showed courage the ability to face his fears.

-he had the choice to let trinity die in the helecopter or to save her,he show the spirte of determination and never give up.

i know the thruth, so don't bother me with facts

     The article i know the thruth but don't bother me with facts was talking about about how people belive in what they want based on what they see, heard,or read. even if the fact or the actual truth is been revealed to them. like in the case of aluminum foil hat,and the presidents birth place. the author also talked about how easy it is to manipulate people's belief systems with insinuating pictures or inflammatory quotes, like the controverse of building a 13-story islamic cultural center planned  at ground zero, which does not consist of only a mosque but other recrational and educational facilities. consequently a research was carried out in ohio state university where 750 people who reported being familiar and believing at least one of the rumors about the proposed center, and 28% rejected the rumors, while 35% acknowledged that there where some truth in the information after giving them full, written rebuttals of the rumors i.e (the facts).
    the world today is fill with many wrong information, and people beleave what ever they want to, base on where their form,what they grow up with and their religious belives, and no matter how you try to convince them, they ignore facts because they beleave its not true.

Blog 4-The Allegory of the Cave

    

    In the book the allegory of the cave by Plato, the author was talking about how people lived in an illusion. Plato describes a group of people who have lived chained to the wall of a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall by things passing in front of a fire behind them, and begin to ascribe forms to these shadows. According to the author, the shadows are as close as the prisoners get to viewing reality. and when one of the prisoners was set free to have a view of reality, he now realize that he was living in a false life all through his life .So he went back to the cave to change his fellow prisoners view of life, But they all disagree with him and said that he has lost his sight, and he will be sentenced to death. The author then explains how the philosopher is like a prisoner who is freed from the cave and comes to understand that the shadows on the wall do not make up reality at all, as he can perceive the true form of reality rather than the mere shadows seen by the prisoners.

''HYPE''

      The article hype is basically talking about the mental pollution, and it gave advertisement as the most prevalant and toxic of the mental pollutant. because all through our day to day activities we come across with several different ad or listen to different ads expecially in north america. you find ad every where you go, from your house to school, to super markets, even on your way back home ,in buses and bill boards.and ranging from 12 billion display ads, 3 million radio commercials and more than 200,000 tv commercial ad is been dumped in north america every day.  i can not be avoided so i becomes part of us.As the author said ''in the silent moments of my life,i often used to hear beethoven's ninth symphony play in my head''.what matters most ot me is that  every day an estimated 12billion display ads,3million radio commercials, and more than 200,000 tv commercial are dumped into north america's collective unconscious.
     As the economy grows, different company finds different ways to make their products known to the world. so they conduct research to find out what to do to their ads of where to put it in order for their costumers to see it or for them to beat other competitors. by doing that they dump millions of ads in the society forgeting about its effects and mental pollution. today you find ads in the internet, mobile phones, news papers, etc. and many research has identefie ads asthe most prevalent and toxic.Capitalist marketing and advertising has polluted our minds and environment from outdoor signs to TV commercials. Now, it pollutes the Internet with all sorts of new attempts at promotion. because they think that we need ads to get and find the information, products and services we need. we prefer to use sites like DMOZ.org which is free from different promotions or advertisement.
     according to what i have read in this article and on my research, i thing that the goverment should creat a policy that prevent the multiple dumping of advertisements, and find a way to reduce the rate of radio and tv ads.

    The article "How to do one thing at a time" is completely talking about multi-tasking and it's effects. the author says that we can not attempt demanding tasks simultaneously because we will end up doing nether as well as we should, due to the brain has capable limits, and our brain does better when it performs task in sequence rather than all at once.
    Doing two things at once is two sided when it comes to different people and in different aspects of life.some people beleave that multi-tasking is good and it helps them in their dat to day activities like texting while driving, listening to music while reading, making calls while sending mails.and it helps them to do these activities faster. but i think that they are wrong if they knew the side effects and the damages it does to their health, like,making them lose focus and lack of concentration, they would have a second tought and do one thing at a time. when they do one thing at a time they find out that they do it well than when they multi-task.
    Asa student i was multi-tasking in my early stage of school when i was to do like five assignement in one day from different subject and classes.i always multi-task so that i can be able to finish it that day and on time. i will have different assignement on my table at the same time doing my house work.latter in my life i found out that i was not getting good grades in the assignement because i was doing different things at once, so i restructured my time table and fixed in a specific subject for a specific time and including my house works,and i began to get good grade.
   based on what i have read and my life experince i say and recomend doing one thing at once so that you can get effectivly what you want  or keep your brain in a good manner.
